⏳ December 16th Devotional: Closer to Christ — Living While We Wait

When Jesus came the first time, the world didn’t recognize Him.
They were looking for a warrior, a ruler, a king with a sword.
Instead, He came as a baby. Gentle. Humble. Holy.

And now, as we await His return, the guessing continues.
People speculate. Predict. Debate.
But Scripture reminds us: the day and hour are unknown.
What we do know is this — each day, we’re one day closer.

“So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” — Matthew 24:44
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” — Matthew 25:13

And not only do we not know when He’ll return — we don’t know how long we’ll live.
Life is a vapor. A breath. A gift.

“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” — James 4:14
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” — Psalm 90:12

🎯 Don’t Just Wait — Walk
Waiting isn’t passive. It’s active. It’s about living for Jesus now — not just watching the sky, but walking in His ways.

🎯 Draw Near Daily
The closer His return, the closer we should be to Him. Through prayer, through scripture, through surrender. Let every day be a step toward His heart.

🎯 Let Your Life Be a Signal
Instead of trying to decode the signs, let your life be one. A testimony of grace, of truth, of love that points to the One who is coming again.

This Christmas, as we celebrate His first coming, let’s also prepare our hearts for the second — not with fear, but with faith. Not with speculation, but with surrender.

A Prayer to Live Closer to Jesus

Jesus,
You came once in humility,
and You will come again in glory.
Help me live in the in-between —
faithful, watchful, devoted.

Let me not just wait for Your return,
but walk with You daily.
Let my heart be ready,
my hands be open,
and my life reflect Your love.

Draw me closer,
day by day,
moment by moment.

You are coming again —
and I choose to live like it matters.

Amen.
