🎁 December 6th Devotional: The Gift of Accepting Gifts
We often talk about giving during Christmas — the generosity, the thoughtfulness, the joy of blessing others. But there’s another side to the story: the grace of receiving.
Accepting a gift is not weakness. It’s not selfishness. It’s a sacred exchange — where love flows freely, and dignity is honored on both sides.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights…” — James 1:17
When we receive with humility, we affirm the giver’s heart. We say, “I see your love. I welcome it. I honor it.”
🎀 Receiving Is Relational
It’s not about the object — it’s about the connection. When we accept a gift, we open the door to deeper relationship. We allow someone to care for us, and we let ourselves be known.
🎀 Receiving Is Healing
For those who’ve always been the strong one, the caregiver, the provider — receiving can feel uncomfortable. But it’s also healing. It reminds us that we’re worthy of care, too.
🎀 Receiving Honors the Giver
When someone gives from the heart, our acceptance validates their offering. It says, “Your kindness matters. Your generosity is seen.” Even Jesus received — from the woman with the alabaster jar, from the crowds who welcomed Him, from the Father who gave Him to us.
This Christmas, let’s not just give. Let’s receive — with grace, with gratitude, and with the understanding that love flows both ways.
A Prayer for Receiving Well
Father,
Thank You for the gifts You’ve given —
life, breath, salvation, love.
Help me receive with humility,
not out of neediness, but out of trust.
Let me honor the hearts of those who give.
Let me welcome kindness without guilt.
Let me remember that receiving is not weakness —
it’s worship.
Teach me to be open,
to be grateful,
to be present in the exchange of love.
And when I give,
let it be with joy.
And when I receive,
let it be with grace.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
