🎁 December 7th Devotional: Being a Good Receiver
We often hear that it’s better to give than to receive. And while giving is a beautiful act of love, receiving — truly receiving — is just as holy.
Being a good receiver isn’t about greed or neediness. It’s about humility. It’s about allowing others to bless us. It’s about recognizing that love flows both ways — and that sometimes, the most generous thing we can do is say yes to someone else’s offering.
“Peter said, ‘You shall never wash my feet.’ Jesus answered, ‘Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.’” — John 13:8
Peter wanted to serve Jesus, not be served. But Jesus gently corrected him. Because love isn’t just about what we give — it’s about what we’re willing to receive.
🎀 Receiving Requires Trust
To receive well is to believe that we are worthy of love. It’s to trust that someone’s kindness isn’t a burden, but a blessing.
🎀 Receiving Builds Relationship
When we receive with grace, we create space for connection. We affirm the giver’s heart. We say, “I see your love, and I welcome it.”
🎀 Receiving Reflects the Gospel
At the heart of our faith is a gift we could never earn — salvation. Grace is something we receive, not achieve. And every time we receive with humility, we echo that truth.
This season, if someone offers you help, a gift, or a kind word — let yourself receive it. Not out of lack, but out of love. Because being a good receiver is part of being a faithful friend, a gracious daughter, and a beloved child of God.
A Prayer to Receive with Grace
Jesus,
You are the Giver of every good gift.
Help me receive with open hands and a grateful heart.
When pride rises up, quiet it with humility.
When I feel unworthy, remind me of Your grace.
Let me honor those who give by receiving with joy.
Let me reflect Your love in the way I welcome kindness.
And let me never forget —
that the greatest gift I’ve ever received is You.
Thank You for loving me first.
Thank You for teaching me how to receive.
